While crowds gathered in Felixstowe to cheer on competitors in the Tour of Britain, one primary school showed its support in a different way.

Staff and children at Grange Community Primary School had been busy creating an incredible piece of ‘Land Art’ on their school field.

Using ropes, spray paint and coloured paper hearts, the image of an enormous racing bike was cleverly outlined for all to see. The message ‘Allez heart Grange’ could be viewed from the sky.

“We only found out in the last week of term that the race was coming to Felixstowe, so we had our own race to get everything ready!” said Genevieve Arlow.

Mrs Arlow is a Year Five teaching assistant at Grange Primary, and has been working hard to ensure all elements came together in time.

The Tour of Britain is the UK’s leading cycle race. It returned for its 19th edition on Sunday last week, with the fifth stage beginning and ending in Felixstowe on Thursday.

Mrs Arlow said that the morning was a resounding success, and that all the children enjoyed cheering the cyclists on, and waving at the helicopter as it soared overhead filming the proceedings.
