The fast-growing Beach Street Felixstowe is set to welcome another foodie delight.

David Jimenez, from Malaga, Spain, and his partner Maddie Bryatt from Suffolk have announced that they will be opening a new authentic tapas restaurant named Taberna Saltpeter Tapas and Wine at the seaside town.

The couple, who live in Ipswich, used to own a wine business in Woodbridge, but set their sights on a tapas restaurant when a container at Beach Street Felixstowe became available.

"The area has lots of buzz to it," said Miss Bryatt, who will be running the wine side of the business.

"We really like Felixstowe - it is such an up-and-coming area."

Both have a background in hospitality. Mr Jimenez was a manager at Tapas Brindisa in London, and also used to run La Fabrica Stroud Green in Finsbury Park.

Mr Jimenez will be stepping into the kitchen at Taberna Saltpeter to cook a range of authentic Spanish tapas delights for customers.

The container will have both indoor and outdoor seating, with space for around 15 people inside.

"There will also be an outside bar and we will serve a range of artisan wines from low-volume wine-makers,' said Miss Bryatt.

The couple moved back to Suffolk from London in 2018 to be nearer to Miss Bryatt's family and friends.

"Most of our experience is from London but we are Suffolk people," said Miss Bryatt.

Taberna Saltpeter Tapas and Wine is hoping to be open by Saturday, September 16, but are yet to confirm an official opening date.

"We still have some things to iron out," said Miss Bryatt, "But we should be open by the end of next week."
