An Ipswich man has been left “disgusted” by the discovery of raw sewage in his garden and the response he received from Anglian Water.

Dale Fellingham, who lives in St Augustine’s Gardens, reported human waste coming from different houses flooding 20ft into his garden this weekend.

He was told by Anglian Water after the discovery on the morning of Saturday that the issue would be dealt with within 24 hours as a priority, but as of Monday the waste was still there.

Ipswich Star:

Mr Fellingham, who has recently had a knee replacement, says Anglian Water has made two visits to his home without removing it – once to unblock his sewer, and the second time to inspect it.

He said: “I am absolutely disgusted by what has happened. It has gone all over my lawnmower all over the things I had stacked in the garden all over the shrubs, on the lawn, and over the gravel boards.

“I have an open wound where I've had my knee replacement and I can't go in the garden.

“It’s not even our sewage. I believe it is from the new development on the gold course.

"This has happened before. It has flowed four times this year across the passageway at the end of the road, the cut-through between Chiltern Road and St Augustine’s Gardens.

“I am livid because they didn’t get back to me, but I was then told on Monday morning that they had teams on call all weekend, but they were just not called out. That was the final nail in the coffin for me."

An Anglian Water spokesman said: “Our engineers visited a customer in Ipswich on Saturday evening to clear a blockage in his garden. We came back on Sunday to assess what else needed to be done, and our team is returning to clean up the customer’s garden today (Monday, September 11).

“We are not aware of any historic issues in the St Augustine’s Gardens area, but our engineers are investigating our pipes in the area to see if any further work is needed.

“We are really sorry for the inconvenience the blockage has caused this customer and thank them for their patience while we get everything back to normal.”
