A date has been set by Ipswich Town for the opening of their new memorial garden.

On November 11, it is hoped the new garden, which was built following the pitch renovations at Portman Road will open.

The garden will be situated at the back of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand, facing the ground where Staples once stood following its demolition.

Due to the installation of the new pitch over the summer, fans who have been buried or had their ashes spread at Portman Road will be moved to the garden.

The news was revealed by Town's CEO Mark Ashton at the Fans Forum at Portman Road held on Wednesday evening.

Ashton said: "Tom Ball and his team have worked really hard on this.

"It's a beautiful design and it is something that we can be very proud of.

"We are hoping that if we hit the right timelines that on November 11, the garden will open with plaques for those that were laid at the stadium."
