A fundraiser has started to help give a five-year-old boy with almost a third of his brain missing a specialist bike and a heart rate monitor.

Kaiden Daley, from Ipswich, has a rare genetic disorder known as COL4A1, meaning he has 30% of his brain missing, right side Hemipiglia and focal epilepsy.

This means that he faces challenges doing everyday tasks such as gripping with his right hand.

He also has an unstable right leg which is in a splint and is unable to take part in contact sports such as rugby and football, which he loves.

A GoFundMe page has been started, set up by Kaiden's older brother's girlfriend, to help raise money to buy him a heart rate monitor which will let his family know when he has a seizure via their devices.

The fundraiser also hopes to secure a specialist bike which has more support and bigger handlebars.

Amanda Harvey, Kaiden's mum, said: "He had a seizure at school once and because of his brain, he isn't allowed for it to hit the floor or other obstacles.

"We have taken him out and he is now home-schooled so we can be by his side.

"We want to give him more independence but it is so hard."

The family have already installed a stairlift in the house, and with the new device it will let whoever has the app know that Kaiden has had a seizure so they can see to him quicker.

Amanda continued: "He is a clever boy.

"He knows to keep his head up when he does have a seizure so that it doesn't hit the ground.

"He's such a sweet little boy, happy, determined, strong-willed and has the most contagious laugh.

"He's a big Arsenal fan too, loves playing football with his brothers and he has received a message from Gabriel Jesus and Jorginho which he really enjoyed.

"He is Mario mad, and has also managed to adapt to playing the Nintendo Switch one-handed."

Kaiden is also a big fan of horse racing, an interest sparked from his late grandparents, and often goes to Newmarket and calls the shots when it comes to what is on TV when there's racing on.

He also enjoys rugby, with his mum's best friend, and Kaiden's godmother, being the parent to England international and fellow Ipswich boy Lewis Ludlam, who Kaiden calls 'Uncle LuLu'.

Another reason the GoFundMe was set up was to get Kaiden a new and specially-made bike, which costs £1,200.

Amanda said: "We've tried a balanced bike but because they have no support around the waist, he just flops, because when he sits he slants more to one side.

"This bike, however, would have big handlebars that are curved rather than little ones normal bikes have.

"It would also have foot straps with bigger bases, and there's a bar that goes around the body which stops him from going anywhere.

"There is also a safety belt that keeps him on the seat, and the break would be on the left hand side so that he can grip it.

"The physio and occupational therapist arranged a session to see if he could get on with this adapted bike.

"The smile and excitement on his face brought me so much happiness as a mother.

"I, like any mother, want the best for my child.

"Our main priority is the monitor, because it is hard to see if there will ever be an end for the seizures.

"But of course, as a mother, I would like to see him whizzing around on a bike that is especially adapted for him, as a young boy should."
