A vet has shared his excitement at opening up a brand-new practice in Claydon.

Monday marks one week since CMW Vets opened its doors to the community – and what a week it has been, said business owner and main vet, Tom Webster.

“I’ve worked in Stowmarket for all my career, the past 29 years,” explained Mr Webster. “I wanted to do something that would allow me to get back to basics, to be part of a smaller practice that was under my own control.”

CMW Vets offers treatment and surgery to cats, dogs and other small, domestic animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters and gerbils.

As an Advanced Practitioner, Mr Webster is qualified to perform advanced small animal surgery, one of the aspects of his job which he particularly enjoys.

However, he said that he is most excited at the prospect of getting to know the community in Claydon, and their four-legged friends.

Rather than seeing a different vet for every appointment, he is hoping that his smaller team can get to know each individual pet, and deliver a friendly and bespoke service.

“Getting to know the clients and the animals should be much easier here with a smaller team,” he said.

“There are relatively few independent practices about these days – we're very much in the minority. We want to be run by the vets and nurses, not by a businessperson way above.”

For now, Mr Webster is the only vet at CMW Vets, but will be adding two more to his team in the next few months.

He said that the first week of business has been gratifyingly busy. “A very good problem to have!” he laughed.
