A popular gift shop has announced that it will be closing the doors of its Felixstowe store, just four months after expanding.

A second branch of That’s Amore opened in Crescent Road in May.

Business owner Sonia Mayes said that her existing store in High Road West, Walton, would continue as a party shop, while the new premises in Felixstowe would focus on gifts.

At the time, she explained that the business had “outgrown” the High Road West store. However, Mrs Mayes announced on Monday that with regret, she had made the decision to close the store in Crescent Road.

“It’s not working at all,” shes said. “At the moment, I’m paying out more in wages than I’m taking.”

“People are still buying on the internet; they can’t get out of the routine. It’s been that way since lockdown,” she said.

Mrs Mayes said that she is hoping to keep the Crescent Road shop open until Christmas, but that this would depend on how business fares in the coming weeks.

“It could be three months, or it could be six weeks. I’ve got a lot of work to do,” she said.

Between now and Christmas, she is hoping to sell as much giftware as possible, before moving the remaining stock into the High Road West premises.
