From an immersive walk around a haunted village to one of the UK's biggest Oktoberfest celebrations, here are five major events in Suffolk you don't want to miss this October. 

1. Oktoberfest Ipswich 2023

Where: Christchurch Park, Ipswich

When: October 6 and October 7

Cost: Starting from £5

More than 6,000 people are expected to attend Oktoberfest Ipswich across three sessions. 

There is a session from 6pm-11pm on Friday, October 6 and Saturday, October 7. A third session will also happen from 12pm-5pm on October 7.

A range of beer, wines and Bavarian food will be served and The Bavarian Strollers will be entertaining you alongside a DJ. 

Standing and seated tickets are still available and you must be over 18 to attend this event.

2. Lavenham Film Festival

Where: Lavenham

When: October 1 to October 8

Cost: Weekly pass £40

Historic medival village Lavenham is hosting its first ever film festival.

Organisers will be screening 27 films in competition at a range of venues, finishing with a gala dinner on October 7. 

Tickets will be available on the door of the venue from 30 minutes before screening. 

The weekly pass will get you entry to all of the films being screened.

3. SHAKE Festival

Where: Aldeburgh

When: October 7 & 8

Cost: Tickets start from £15

There will be something for everyone at this weekend of Shakespeare-inspired events.

Performances encompass comedy and music and will be performed by school children, famous professors and stars of stage and screen.

Netflix star Alex Jennings was recently announced as performing at the festival.

4. Lowestoft Film Festival

Where: Lowestoft

When: October 20 to October 27

Cost: Festival passes cost £3, or £1 per individual screening

This year's Lowestoft Film Festival has a programme of more than 130 independent films and is a place to discover new emerging talent 

The event is run by Sunrise Studios, a studio run by a team of young creatives and filmakers in Lowestoft. 

All entry fees and tickets sales will go directly to support the ongoing work by Sunrise Studios.

The Big Lowestoft Film Festival Quiz will take place at East Point Pavilion at 7.45pm on October 26.

5. Scaresville - The Haunted Village

Where: Kentwell Hall, Sudbury

When: October 11 to October 29

Cost: Advance tickets cost £24.95 or tickets are available on the door for £29.95

Tours are nightly from October 11 to October 22 with additional tours on October 27, 28 and 29.
