A new Poundstretcher store had its grand opening in a Suffolk town on Tuesday, filling a premises vacated by retailer M&S more than four years ago.

First arrivals to the new shop in Hamilton Road, Felixstowe had the chance to win £250 worth of shopping vouchers, while there was a 'Trolley Dash' where people could fill a trolley with as many products as they could within 60 seconds.

At the time of the closure, M&S said the move was 'vital and necessary for the future of M&S' and to ensure its shops were alongside other major retail outlets which would attract customers.

However, the decision attracted howls of protest from council leaders, businesses and 8,000 people who signed a petition against the closure.

Poundstretcher signed a five year lease to move into the ground-floor commercial unit at 55 Hamilton Road in Felixstowe earlier this year.
