Ed Sheeran swapped the stage for the bar as he helped pour pints at Portman Road, leaving Ipswich Town fans stunned.

The Suffolk superstar and the Tractor Boys' honorary number 17 was back watching his boyhood team on Tuesday night, as they faced Hull City under the lights.

After appearing on TownTV, Sheeran headed into the concourse of the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand to help staff pour pints.

He was also awarded a League One 'promotion medal' ahead of the match by chief executive Mark Ashton.

Daisy Hendry, who spotted the Shape of You singer, said: "There was a whole entourage and it did shock me as I just wanted a drink."

He then headed back to his seat to watch Kieran McKenna's men take apart Hull in scintillating fashion, as goals from Wes Burns, Conor Chaplin and Marcus Harness earned Town a 3-0 win.

After the game had finished, Sheeran then joined the players and staff for a rendition of his song 'Perfect'.

Earlier in the day, he popped back to his old school, Thomas Mills High School, to meet staff and pupils.

He told TownTV: “I was teaching at my old school today, I think I came here with my dad in April, but I’m now going to be here regularly which is nice."

Sheeran got up on stage and performed songs for pupils and staff, who were unaware of his visit.

He then held a Q&A, answering between 20 and 30 questions, before also taking part in a workshop with GCSE pupils.

Headteacher Phillip Hurst said: "He is a really good friend of the school and he totally understands what the school is about

"He came with his guitar and started with a couple of songs.

"For me as the headteacher I really like the message he gives, saying you work hard and find your talent. He says do what you love and love what you do.

"He is good for Framlingham. He is good for Thomas Mills, but he is an ambassador for Suffolk."
