An empty warehouse unit in Commercial Road in Ipswich could soon become a Toolstation.

Plans have been submitted to Ipswich Borough Council which show that the tool and building supplies chain is interested in opening premises at Unit 4A Commercial Road, where Jollyes Petfood Superstore used to be.

A planning statement prepared by consultants at the Norwich-based Lanpro Services said that the unit has been vacant since Jollyes closed in January 2021.

Toolstation is a national supplier of tools, accessories and building supplies.

The planning statement said that Toolstation has “expressed an interest and exchanged contracts to take on the unit,” but that this is subject to changing the use of the space to allow a trade counter.

If this application is accepted, the store would be open from 7am to 8pm from Monday to Friday, including Bank Holidays.

On Saturdays, it would operate from 7am to 7pm, and from 9am to 5pm on Sundays.

Ipswich Borough Council sets an automatic eight-week timeframe for a decision on all planning applications, and has given this proposal a target date of November 30.
