The Felixstowe Ferris wheel will spin for the last time this year on Sunday after being a "huge success" with visitors to the town.

The View, which has been situated on Felixstowe seafront since opening in August, has been an attraction for thousands over the summer.

The 34.5-metre-high attraction has been a hit with people over the last few months, with people queuing not a rare sight to take a trip on the wheel.

Kate Cain, Felixstowe Business Improvement District manager, said: "We could not have anticipated the huge success of the wheel, despite arriving late in the season.

"It was perfect timing for our grand summer finale with the Love Felixstowe Festival, Art on the Prom and the Tour of Britain Stage 5 start and finish.

"Footfall was outstanding with over 20% new visitors to the town, and the wheel has certainly been a big part of the attraction as well as our skyline.

Between September 2 and 8, the period where the Love Felixstowe Festival, the Tour of Britain and the wheel were all being enjoyed, Felixstowe saw an extra 12,177 people visit the town, figures have revealed.

There is hope the wheel might return for another year.

Ms Cain added: "It's been photographed by hundreds, had countless social media posts with lots of chat speculating on its return.

"I know the owners and operators are keen, they’ve been great at talking to us and providing a wonderful service for all our holiday makers, visitors and residents.

"It’s been a cheerful talking point and we’d wholly support a comeback next year – just make it sooner."
