Plans for three new homes on land used for current residents’ car parking in Ipswich have been approved, despite neighbours’ concerns.
It was first proposed to create three three-bedroom homes on land to the rear of numbers 46 to 68 Lakeside Road, in the Sprites area of Ipswich, in December last year.
The land is currently used as a car parking area for those living in these flats.
Floor plans submitted to Ipswich Borough Council show that each home will be spread across three storeys.
A design and access statement prepared by planning consultants at Sinclair Studios said that each house would be suitable for six people.
The application form submitted to the council shows that this development will result in a loss of five car parking spaces, bringing the number down from 26 to 21.
The design and access statement explained that 12 of these spaces will be allocated to current residents, one for each flat, while six will be given to the new houses, two for each home. The remainder will be used for visitor parking. Spaces for 30 bicycles will also be created.

The council approved these plans on Friday, October 6. However, several residents had written to the council to raise their objections.
One flat resident said that they have three vehicles and use their car parking spaces “full-time”. Another described the development as a “total infringement to existing properties”.
Another resident said: “Our concern is that parking may become congested and limited more in Lakeside Rd. It is already bad enough trying to park when family/friends visit.
“The road already has more than enough cars and vans parked on it and some are on corners which already make this road congested and dangerous.”
