A grassroots football club in Suffolk is set to release a club anthem to help raise the club's profile and "much-needed funds".

AFC Kesgrave, a club established in 2007, is set to release a song to use as the club anthem that fans can sing at games.

Stuart House, the club's digital and marketing officer, who is also a musician, was the brains behind the idea.

He said: "The club is going through a bit of a transition at the moment.

"The club badge has changed after 15 years, we've made a website, we've got a new club motto and club values so there are big changes for the club.

"I came up with the idea that it would be good to have a club anthem that fans can sing.

"Another reason I wanted to do this was because there's less and less money in football at grassroots level.

"Lots of clubs are folding across Suffolk so it was an idea to help raise the profile of the club and raise much-needed funds for the club in a fun way."

The song has taken inspiration, particularly with the artwork for the single, of the popular 2002 hit, World In Motion by New Order and the England football team.

The song, called 'We're AFC', has been fully recorded using a mobile phone app called GarageBand, and the song will have an 80s/90s feel to it.

Mr House continued: "I am really excited for people to hear it.

"It's just a bit of fun and at grassroots level it's a lot of doom and gloom, so I just wanted to do something that's a bit of fun, put a smile on people's faces and raise some essential funds for the club."

The song will have its first play on BBC Radio Suffolk this weekend, and the song will also be released on all streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
