Plans for nine new garages in east Ipswich have been submitted to replace unwanted parking bays.
Nine parking bays in the Oakstead Close car park could be turned into two blocks of garages for domestic storage use, according to new planning documents submitted to Ipswich Borough Council.
In the documents, the applicant said that the existing parking spaces have been advertised to let at very competitive terms for many years but remain empty with weeds growing over them.
The new garages, however, would be useful for nearby residents, the documents also claimed.
The current site in Oakstead Close consists of private parking spaces that are let out to local residents.
However, despite "extensive" marketing and price reductions, two-thirds of the spaces remain vacant.
The garages would be made from concrete and have metal doors.
One block is set to consist of six separate garages, while the other would accommodate three storages.
Ipswich Borough Council’s planning committee will review the application in due course, and a decision is expected at a later date.
