Plans have been submitted for new electric vehicle (EV) charging points at Cardinal Park in Ipswich, which could result in the loss of spaces.

The proposed hub will be situated in the main car park on the southern side, next to the McDonald's drive-thru entrance.

The plans, submitted to Ipswich Borough Council, outline 12 ultra-rapid EV charging points and associated electrical infrastructure.

Eight existing parking bays will be removed to accommodate six charging points and one substation and equipment.

The proposal, from Osprey Charging Network, states: "Our proposal will serve as a vital new piece of infrastructure for both locals and for visitors.

"Further, it will serve to increase footfall at the park.

"It is Osprey's aim to not only meet, but to exceed the requirements for accessible access.

"The proposed development will have minimal visual impact on the local area, as the chargers and associated infrastructure are limited to 2.3 metres in height."

A series of electric vehicle charging points have been planned for streets across Ipswich over the last year.
