The first bricks have been laid at a controversial 144-house development in a Suffolk village.
The works have just started at a new development in East Bergholt, which is set to deliver a collection of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, including 50 affordable homes.
They said a series of small, sustainable developments dotted around the village, rather than one large “housing estate”, would have been more suitable for the area.
The new development will cover nearly 19 acres of land north-west of Moore’s Lane, the area that has been immortalised by the paintings of John Constable.
The David Wilson Homes’ brand-new Suffolk development, called Constable Gardens, has created approximately 288 jobs for local people during its time.
Tom Wright, managing director at David Wilson Homes Eastern Counties, said: “Our development is starting to take shape nicely and we’re proud to have unveiled a range of high-quality properties for prospective buyers in this fantastic location.
“Throughout the development’s progression, we will be contributing to the local community through the new homes provided, jobs supported, and our financial investment in the area’s facilities and services.
“We pride ourselves on our commitment to the local community at each of our new developments, and we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to support the demand for new homes in East Bergholt.”
The new development will also feature 5.4 acres of public open space onsite, which gives homebuyers a peaceful setting for a new home.
