The University of Suffolk is seeking permission to continue the use of a car park by Ipswich Waterfront and install four electric vehicle charging points.

Orwell Quay car park in University Avenue currently hosts 259 car parking spaces, 14 accessible parking spaces, 26 cycle spaces and nine powered two-wheeler (PTW) spaces.

The plans include the removal of four existing car parking spaces, the installation of four EV charging bays, and the addition of two PTW spaces.

The site that can be accessed by vehicular traffic via University Avenue and by pedestrians via Orwell Quay, Duke Street and University Avenue has been in long-established use as a pay and display car park since 1996.

The application submitted to Ipswich Borough Council’s planning and development committee seeks to renew that permission for a further period of five years.

The University of Suffolk has recently submitted an application to continue to use the Ballast Wharf Walk car park for university staff and students.
