An American fast-food chain, Five Guys, which is set to open in Ipswich, has applied for permission to sell alcohol and serve late-night refreshments.

The restaurant will open in the former Dough&Co restaurant in Cardinal Park, next to Subway and Nando's.

It was first announced in August that the chain would open a branch in Ipswich, with the franchise confirming the news in September.

Five Guys has recently applied for permission to sell alcohol on and off the premises between 11am and 11pm from Sunday to Wednesday and between 11am and midnight from Thursday to Saturday.

The fast-food restaurant would like to provide late-night refreshments between 11pm and midnight from Thursday to Saturday.

The chain also applied for permission to provide regulated entertainment between 8am and 11.30pm from Sunday to Wednesday and between 8am and half past midnight from Thursday to Saturday.

Last month, the restaurant applied to Ipswich Borough Council for permission to make alterations to the shopfront and associated signage.

The proposal includes the replacement of the existing shopfront with one that is more modern, including new doors for better access.

The inside of the restaurant will have two drink stations, a pickup area, a condiments station, four toilets, including one disabled, and spaces for up to 72 guests.

Outside, there will be a further 28 seats, bringing the total up to 100, as well as two branded umbrellas and branded breeze screens, in keeping with other units along Cardinal Park.

An opening date is yet to be revealed, but a spokesman for Five Guys said the new restaurant could be open later this year or early 2024.

Five Guys would join Subway, Nando's and Ask Italian as the operating restaurants at the site following Harvester's closure.
