There were long delays on the A14 near the Orwell Bridge outside of Ipswich.
Police were called to a broken down vehicle near Seven Hills Interchange for Felixstowe on the eastbound carriageway at about 8.30am on Tuesday.
Traffic was queuing back to the Copdock Interchange roundabout.
A spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed that officers had been called to assist.
According to the AA Traffic Map there were delays of about 15 minutes.
