An Ipswich café is bringing festive joy to those in need by offering a full Christmas dinner for just £3.50.

The Royal Oak in Felixstowe Road, a café opened by homelessness and wellbeing charity Emmaus Suffolk, will serve hot festive meals every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday until December 22.

The bargain roast dinner is available as part of the charity’s One Pot Wonder scheme, which provides a different nutritious and delicious special each week.

The scheme aims to support people struggling financially and alleviate the financial pressure people feel while dining out.

The café located is also launching its Christmas meal appeal, which asks customers to gift a dish and purchase a meal for a vulnerable person or someone facing financial difficulties.

Every donation will be added to a gifting tree at the Royal Oak, and customers will be able to take a festive token off the tree to redeem a free meal or drink.

Claire Staddon, chief executive officer of Emmaus Suffolk, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to offer a festive version of our popular One Pot Wonder.

“We know at this time of year that food poverty is a real issue, as people choose whether to heat or eat, and our hope is that the Christmas meal appeal can support local people with a hot, healthy, and balanced meal.

“As a charity, we are also experiencing rising costs and anyone who gifts a dish forward will be supporting Emmaus and the work we do too.”

Emmaus Suffolk is also hosting a Christmas Craft Fayre at The Royal Oak on Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, between 10am and 4pm with a range of stalls from local artists and businesses.

Proceeds from the charity’s shop and café during the event will support Emmaus Suffolk’s Kids and Carers Hub and allow the charity to offer free food and better-quality toys for attendees.

A vegetarian and gluten-free option for Christmas dinner is available. Customers can book a table by contacting The Royal Oak on 01473 721570.
