Approval has been granted to a developer for a second phase of new homes at a new estate in Felixstowe.

East Suffolk Council granted planning permission for 305 new homes in Trelawny Place, in addition to the initial phase of 255 homes that are already in construction in the seaside town.

Persimmon Homes, the developer behind the scheme, said the new properties will help East Suffolk Council to meet local housing needs by offering a combination of starter homes as well as larger family housing.

A total of 101 new homes will also be offered for affordable rent or shared ownership through a housing association partner.

Persimmon has also confirmed that the majority of the homes will be zero-carbon ready.

Ian Hamilton, managing director, said: "The inclusion of zero-carbon ready homes within this second phase is also extremely exciting."

"To achieve this, we will be utilising a range of green technologies to maximise their energy efficiency and sustainability."

More than £2million will be directed towards highway improvements on local roads, public footpaths and local schools, Persimmon has said.
