A graphic designer who studied at the University of Suffolk has said it was "surreal" to see her design on the side of an F1 car in America.

Avid Formula 1 racing fan Lindsay Palmer entered a competition run by Red Bull to create a livery for an F1 Racing Car to be used at the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

She took inspiration from the bright lights of Las Vegas and combined the names of Red Bull's two drivers, current World Champion Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez, incorporating their initials into poker chips and playing cards in a nod to the city's casino lifestyle.

The competition entries were posted on the team's Instagram page, where fans chose their top ten designs before selecting Lindsay as the winner.

Over 24,000 votes were cast, and Lindsay was treated to a VIP trip to Vegas, which included access to the paddock, a garage tour, and seeing her design come to life by Red Bull designers.

The former Suffolk student, who studied the BA in Graphic Design and graduated in 2012, said: "As an F1 fan, I saw the promo competition and spent a few evenings coming up with concepts to fit the brief of 'to look good under the lights of Las Vegas'.

"When you think of Vegas, you think of the bright lights and casino culture, and I integrated the drivers' initials and racing numbers into playing cards and poker chips to create a design called 'Two of a Kind'.

"It still all seems rather surreal.

"It has certainly given me a boost in confidence and motivation."

This was the first year Las Vegas had hosted the Formula 1 Grand Prix, with the first race being held on November 18.

Max Verstappen went on to win, in the car kitted out with Lindsay's design.
