A gym in Ipswich has suddenly closed, with the landlord taking back possession due to a potential breach of contract.

Energie Fitness in Rosehill Centre, Ipswich, closed suddenly on the evening of December 21.

They emailed customers stating that the gym will 'temporarily close' and they are 'working hard to reopen the club as soon as possible'.

Signs on the door and windows of the gym, however, state that the building has been taken back by the landlord, East of England Co-operative Society Limited.

The sign states: 'Take notice that the landlord of the aforementioned premises under a lease dated August 2, 2017, has this day taken possession of the premises operated by the tenant and has forfeited the lease in accordance with Clause 7.

As a consequence of the re-entry, the lease is forfeited and the premises have been secured.'

The three notices in the windows and door were all signed by Regina Peachey on behalf of the landlord, and dated December 21, 2023.

All members will have received an email and their memberships will be frozen so no further payments will come out.

The email from the gym goes on to say: 'We would like to take this opportunity to say that we are grateful to our members for continuing to support our locally owned gym and thank you for your patience.

'We will aim to provide a further update as to a planned re-opening date shortly.'
