An Ipswich resident described the shocking moment a tree came crashing down outside his house - mere minutes after his partner had arrived home.

As of this morning, Suffolk Highways has received reports of more than 100 fallen trees all around the county as Storm Henk continues to rage.

Nacton Road resident Michael Burgess, has been left with two vehicles likely to be written off, no Wi-Fi or phone service, and extensive damage to his front wall after a tree came down at 6.30pm yesterday evening.

"I was already home," said Mr Burgess. "My partner had just pulled up a couple of minutes beforehand. She got in the house - and then we heard a bang.

"She literally missed it by a couple of minutes. It was a lucky one, in a way."

The tree came crashing down through their front garden, destroying the wall. Sections of pavement were also pulled up by the tree roots.

Mr Burgess' fence was damaged, as was his partner's car and his work van, which was parked outside.

"I should imagine both vehicles will be written off, as there's a lot of scratches and dents on them where branches have bounced and hit them," he said.

Many have reported fallen trees and damage to property.

Mr Burgess said: "All the phone lines, the Wi-Fi, that's all down.

"It's a bit of a sorry state. Not what you need to start the year."

A yellow weather warning was initially issued by the Met Office for strong winds yesterday. However, this was upgraded to an amber warning as winds as strong as 70mph hit Suffolk.
