When Maidstone United and their manager George Elokobi visit Ipswich this month, he won't be the only George Elokobi in town.

For the last four years, French Bulldog George Elokobi has been living in central Ipswich with his owners.

He, unsurprisingly, is named after the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and Colchester United player who is the current manager of Maidstone United.

Owner Chris Burns is a big Wolves and George Elokobi fan and shares the dog with his partner Chloe, who is an Ipswich fan.

Mr Burns said: "She knew how much of a fan I was, and the name is just a bit of a laugh really.

"He is registered as George Elokobi, insurance refers to him as George Elokobi as well.

"He's one of my favourites, he's a character and you could tell how important it was to have him around Wolves.

"I remember there being a press conference when the club survived relegation with Mick McCarthy, and George Elokobi interrupted and sprayed him with champagne and it just brings back good memories."

George Elokobi, the human, will come to Ipswich on January 27 with his Maidstone United side to face Ipswich Town at Portman Road in the FA Cup 4th round in front of BBC cameras.

The team is in the sixth tier of English football and is the lowest-ranked side in round four after knocking out Stevenage.

But learning that his favourite player was coming to town had to be broken to Mr Burns.

Mr Burns continued: "When the tie was made, I had no idea.

"I'm a bit ashamed of myself, being such a big fan of him, it was my mum who texted me to say George Elokobi was on the TV.

"I hadn't realised and it took my mum texting me to realise that it was the draw.

"We are just waiting for tickets to come out now.

"I would love for George Elokobi to meet George Elokobi, but I am not sure how we could make it work."
