A man who supplied drugs in Ipswich and a man who smuggled a yacht full of migrants towards Lowestoft were among those jailed in Suffolk this week.

Described by police as a man "clearly heavily involved in the supply of class A and class B drugs", Reece Codrington was detained after officers received reports of a man suspected to be dealing drugs in the area of Stoke Park Drive in Ipswich.

Codrington, 25 and of Melvin Way in Woolpit, matched the description of the suspect and one of the two phones in his possessions rang when police called a phone number which was known to be used by a local drugs line.

It was established he had been at a nearby address prior to being detained an a search of the home revealed lumps of cocaine, wraps of heroin and a large quantity of cannabis, along with digital scales and a number of mobile phones. 

Codrington pleaded guilty to five offences and was sentenced to four years and three months in jail.

Eduard Mucaj, 51 and from Albania, set sail from Den Oever in the Netherlands in the early hours of August 9, 2023. 

Dutch authorities tracked the boat as it erratically sailed towards Lowestoft and the Dutch coastguard alerted the Home Office failed to respond to their attempts to make contact with the vessel. 

Two days later Border Force intercepted the board and found a dozen Albanian migrants, including an eight-year-old child, below deck. 

Ipswich Crown Court heard how the yacht had no safety or navigational equipment and Mucaj was the only person on board wearing a life jacket. 

He was sentenced to 32 months in jail.
