A large police presence was spotted on an Ipswich residential street this morning.

Officers from Suffolk police were called to a property in Kitchener Road at about 4am on Tuesday.

According to an eyewitness, police could be seen blocking one end of the road, and an ambulance, officers and several police cars and vans in attendance.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said that the incident is contained to one home and that the street was cordoned off as a precaution.

He said: "A man was later detained under the Mental Health Act."

The road was blocked off at both ends, but the cordon has now been lifted on the side near Springfield Junior School so that children can get to school.
