Tributes have been paid to a 58-year-old mum with a "heart of gold", as supporters are being encouraged to take part in a minute's applause at Portman Road.

Liz Damant, a lifelong Ipswich Town fan, passed away suddenly at the age of 58 from a bleed on the brain on February 11.

Liz was much loved by those in her life, including her two children, Jacques and twin sister Charley, and her long-term partner Ian Burgin.

Her son Jacques said: "She was lovely.

"She had a heart of gold and always put others before herself, whether it be family or friends.

"She was a very compassionate, kind-hearted and happy, smiley person."

Liz, who worked in the NHS for more than 10 years as a receptionist in the oncology department at Ipswich Hospital, was an avid Town fan, and enjoyed fitness classes, baking, trips away and dog walks.

She was also a huge George Burley fan.

Because of her love for Ipswich Town, a minute's applause is planned for the Championship home match against Birmingham City on February 24 throughout the 58th minute.

Jacques continued: "We will all be going to the game tomorrow, and I am sure she would absolutely love it.

"The number of people who have already paid tribute and said some very kind words is just really lovely.

"We have family friends who are associated with the club and they have been able to arrange this, so we have a lot of gratitude towards them."

A Much Loved page has been set up in memory of Liz, with flowers welcome and donations open with all proceeds going to Kidney Research UK, a charity close to Liz's heart after undergoing kidney transplant in 2012.
