A district council is to discuss controversial plans next week which would see 25 more homes built in a village near Ipswich, despite concerns raised by residents and the parish council.

East Suffolk Council is to discuss proposals for the potential new development of 25 homes in Keightly Way in Tuddenham St Martin.

These plans are being recommended for approval, despite concerns raised regarding the increased traffic on a road which has no dedicated parking for residents, no pedestrian access and dangerous vehicle access.

Speaking earlier this month, resident Richard Ward described the road as a "nightmare", adding: "The development, which developers say meets all the local and national guidelines, has no footpath access to anywhere, so every journey will need to be by car."

The plans have received 76 letters of representation - 75 of which object to the plans.

Despite this, the council is recommending it for approval subject to controlling conditions and the provision of affordable housing, a contribution to primary school places and primary and secondary school transport and a contribution to improving pedestrian facilities.

They stated it is a "modest and proportionate addition of housing" and the "layout of the development is acceptable".

Bennett Homes and W&M Pipe, the developers, stated the plans would provide "much-needed housing, which will enable a positive impact upon the character and appearance of the surrounding built form of the village".

The plans are subject to discussion at the Planning Committee South East Suffolk Council meeting on Tuesday, February 27.
