From a mobile sauna box on a beach to a restaurant in an old bus shelter, here are five Suffolk businesses found in unexpected places.

1. Sauna Box

Where: Dunwich Beach, Dunwich, Saxmundham, IP17 3EN

Sauna Box runs mobile saunas across the east coast including Dunwich Beach where it returned on December 2, 2023. 

The sauna is made from a converted horse box.

On weekends it is available for community and private saunas and also hosts full moon saunas.

2. Pilgrims' Kitchen

Where: Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1LS

Located just behind St Edmundsbury Cathedral, the café serves a range of hot food and cakes for breakfast and lunch. 

With indoor and outdoor seating it offers all visitors a place to eat and meet new people.

It recently reopened on Tuesday, February 27 after having new ovens installed.

3. Woosters Bakery

Where: The Windmill, School Lane, Bardwell, IP31 1AD

The artisan bakery specialising in breads, pastries and cakes is located inside of a windmill. 

Famous chef Nigella Lawson praised the bakery for its malt loaf stating it "was the best malt loaf I've ever eaten".

The bakery has a second location in Langton Place, Bury St Edmunds.

4. Berridges

Where: 4 Dial Lane, Ipswich, IP1 1DL

While it may not be unexpected to find a jewellery shop in a town centre, it is more unique to find one with a restaurant. 

Dubbed an "oasis of calm", the restaurant above the shop serves homemade breakfasts, lunches and cakes. 

Downstairs there is a range of jewellery collections including engagement and wedding rings available to buy.

5. Lark

Where: Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1UZ

The location of the nationally recognised restaurant has been home to many different venues. 

It was originally built as a bus station and was even used as a police station at one point it its history. 

Lark, named after the nearby river, opened there in 2023.
