A stray dog rescued from Zante has found her first home after being in care for five years.

Snow has been moved between rescue shelters and foster homes over recent years after her life was threatened by poisoning while a stray in Greece.

The seven-year-old was brought to Ipswich fosterer Yvette Hart in June 2023 who runs her shelter, Wags on Water in a wide-beam barge moored in central Ipswich.

"Snow was very fearful when she arrived so I didn't apply any pressure," Yvette said.

"I gave her space and it was two weeks before she voluntarily came near me."

However, six weeks after moving to Ipswich, Snow tore her cruciate ligament whilst off lead in a secure field.

After raising more than £1,900 for surgery and a gruelling recovery she was given the all clear in January.

She has now been adopted by Gemma Patterson and Liam McNoga, meaning Snow now has her first home since coming to the UK.

The big day has been a long time coming for the dog who was taken in by the charity with another dog after the threat of poisoning in 2019.

Time has been needed with Snow who was very fearful of people and when she first arrived in the UK only came out of her kennel when everyone had left.

She was set to come to Yvette in 2022, but shortly before Snow tested positive for Leishmaniasis, an illness caused by parasites, and was taken to a training and wellness shelter in Wokingham.

In June 2023 Snow finally boarded Yvette's barge.

On the 12.5ft wide barge, Yvette houses at max five dogs - two of which are her own and three she would foster.

Yvette started this care in 2018 after she was asked to foster two dogs, and has since got heavily involved with Zante Stray Rescue, who are a Greek and UK-based charity helping threatened dogs find homes.

She said: "I've found homes for Greek dogs with health issues like cancer, full of shotgun pellets, Leishmaniasis, also old dogs."
