An Ipswich man has been ordered to pay out more than £1,000 and banned from the roads after failing to tell police the identity of a driver in London.

Marius Mariusica, of Burnell Road in Ipswich, appeared before Willesden Magistrates' Court on March 8.

This was in relation to an incident on August 14 last year in Bexley where Mariusica was asked by the Metropolitan Police in London to provide information relating to the identification of the driver.

He was driving a Ford Transit van and refused to comply with the officer's order, according to a court listing.

Mariusica was charged with failing to give information relating to the identification of a driver when required.

The case was dealt with through the single justice procedure, which typically deals with more minor summary offences that are not heard before a crown court.

Marius was handed a fine of £660 by the London court.

He was also told to pay a victim surcharge of £264, as well as costs of £100 – making a total of £1,024.

Additionally, his driving licence was endorsed with six points.
