New restrictions on delivery vehicles planned for a town centre street have been described as "challenging, but an opportunity" by a business representative.

Suffolk County Council has announced plans to introduce restrictions on waiting and loading in Hamilton Road in Felixstowe between the junctions with Cobbold Road and Orwell Road - an area designated as a pedestrian and cycling zone.

If the proposals go ahead, vehicles will no longer be able to wait in the road, while there will be no loading between 10am and 4pm.

The traffic order will also change three bays that had previously been designated for shared use by disabled motorists with blue badges and for loading.

In future, these bays will only be available for loading between 10am and 4pm, while blue badge holders will be able to park there at all hours outside of 10am and 4pm.

The measures may affect deliveries to shops in the town centre.

Last March, the EADT revealed that a temporary closure of this section of the road to traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic between 10am and 4pm, was going to be made permanent.
