The Plough is one of my favourite pubs in Ipswich town centre - Greene King beer, good food reasonably priced, friendly staff and sport on big screens.

So when I was asked to go along to a pub and sample the atmosphere as Town crushed Norwich to cement their place at the top of the Championship, I knew where to go!

Sadly while the pub did absolutely everything right, what happened on the pitch at Carrow Road did nothing to make it a memorable day!

At half time the atmosphere was pretty good. Town were 1-0 down and hadn't looked that sharp in the first half - but that's their normal MO and most were anticipating great things when the subs came on.

But during the second half the mood clearly started shifting from blue to black as the belief among the fans started fading away.

As soon as the final whistle blew it felt like the "Time please" bell had been rung - three-quarters of the punters melted away.

Those that were left didn't want to say anything: "Ask someone else, mate!" was the stock reply.

I joined them in disappearing from the pub. I'll probably be back at the Plough soon - but probably not when Town are playing on the box!

But at least at the end of the afternoon there was a sliver of good news from Coventry as Leeds' loss ensured Town stayed in the top two.
