A team from an Ipswich college have qualified for a prestigious national competition final for the first time in their history.

Students from Suffolk New College are one step away from being crowned Young Restaurant Team of the Year.

Having impressed judges in the early rounds, they have qualified for the national final which will be held in Sheffield in June.

Made up of two chefs and a front of house expert, the trio, made up of Davide Oggero, Phoebe Chew and Ella Amos, are hoping for glory ahead of this final.

Two of the team, Davide and Phoebe, were knocked out at the semi-final stage last year.

Phoebe, 17 and from Chelmondiston, said: "We learnt lots from last time and to get through to the finals is a big achievement.

Ella, 17 and from Nacton, added: "The last round was nerve wracking and I thought we weren't going to do it, but we did and I am proud of our efforts.

"We work well as a team and it would mean a lot to win."

The winning team will receive a trip to France as well as a dinner at The Savoy Hotel in London.
