A jury will be called to serve in the inquest into the death of a cyclist from Felixstowe – but a decision has not yet been made about whether criminal charges will be brought.

Allan Stevenson, 73, died after being involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle in Walton High Street on October 24, 2022.

Mr Stevenson was found to have unsurvivable injuries, and died at the scene.

On Tuesday, a pre-inquest review was held at Suffolk Coroners’ Court in Ipswich on Tuesday with a view to an inquest being carried out.

Senior Coroner for Suffolk Nigel Parsley told the court that when an inquest takes place, it will do so with the assistance of a jury.

However, the court heard that a decision has not yet been made about whether a criminal investigation will be launched.

An inquest cannot be carried out while criminal investigations are underway.

The government agency Health and Safety Executive was represented by Julie Rayner.

Miss Rayner told Mr Parsley that she anticipated that the question of criminal charges will be answered within the next six months.

Pending that decision, the next pre-inquest review into the death of Mr Stevenson is expected to take place in October.
