Organisers of an Ipswich farmers' market have their fingers crossed that a planned road closure won't affect their event on Sunday (April 14).

Farmers Ben and Georgina Woolf of Oak House Farm at Sproughton will be hosting their first farmers' market of the year from 10am to 2pm.

They were dismayed when signs went up warning of road closures on the main access to the farm along the B1113 and on Burstall Lane.

But the Woolfs said that with the help of their local county councillor and Sproughton Parish Council they had received a confirmation that Burstall Lane will remain open.

They are hoping that with luck the B1113 in Sproughton will have cleared prior to the start of the market at 10am.

“I understand that large loads need to be moved through Sproughton from time to time, but we never receive adequate advance notice of this and this has a very negative impact on our business," said Georgina.

"Hopefully on this occasion, our event will be unaffected and our customers will be able to come and enjoy the market.”

The market - which will operate alongside the farm butchery - will include around 20 stalls selling a wide range of goods including craft items, to plants, cakes and art.

The butchery will be selling home reared Red Poll and Shorthorn beef, Gloucestershire Old Spot and Large White pork and a range of lamb and chicken.

The farm will also be cranking up its barbecue to provide sausages, burgers and bacon sandwiches.

There will also be a chance to meet some of the farm's pigs and cattle - and to see some of the more recent spring piglet and calf arrivals.

The market takes place at Oak House Farm, Burstall Lane, Sproughton, IP8 3DH from 10am to 2pm. Entry and parking are both free.
