A man from Ipswich has been banned from the roads after being caught using a mobile phone while driving.

Kirk Joseph, of Ann Street in Ipswich, was caught using his mobile phone while behind the wheel of a Vauxhall Corsa in June last year.

The 50-year-old was driving along the A12 Eastern Avenue in London, in the borough of Barking and Dagenham, on June 12 last year.

His case was heard before Stratford Magistrates’ Court on March 16. He was charged with using a handheld mobile phone while driving a motor vehicle on a road.

Joseph pleaded guilty to this offence.

The case was dealt with through the single justice procedure, which deals with more minor offences that are not heard before a crown court.

The court decided that Joseph would be disqualified from driving for six months, and six penalty points were added to his driving licence.

Joseph was also told to pay a fine of £40. He was also ordered to pay a surcharge of £16, which goes towards funding victim services, as well as court costs of £110.

This brings the total amount that Joseph will pay to £166.
