Drivers are being warned about an emergency road closure that will be in place today to fix a large sinkhole that appeared more than a month ago.

The large defect was first spotted in High Street close to Ipswich Museum on Wednesday, March 13.

Suffolk Highways attended and cordoned off a section of the road while investigations were carried out

Speaking previously about the sinkhole, a spokeswoman said: "The area has been made safe and sectioned off with barriers until investigations have been completed to determine the cause and next steps."

Suffolk Highways confirmed earlier this week that an emergency road closure would be put in place on Friday (April 19) so repair work can be carried out.

The road will closed between 9.30am and 3.30pm.

Drivers will be able to divert along Crown Street and Fonnereau while the road is closed.
