Police were called to Shotley at the weekend after it had been reported that a 'bomb' had been found.

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 5.30pm on Saturday.

An army bomb disposal unit then arrived at the scene at 7.40pm.

It was eventually reported that the suspicious object was actually a 57mm Bofors round, generally known as being used in anti-aircraft weapons.

The incident was finally resolved at 7.50pm.

Last year the army was also called out to Little Oakley beach, near Harwich, when a unexploded bomb was discovered.
