A Felixstowe care home resident has received a touching reminder of her Land Girl past.

99-year-old Peggy, resident at Mill Lane Care Home, was delighted to receive an old photograph of her time as a Land Girl in Ipswich.

Care worker Simon found the photo and gave it to Peggy, knowing how much her service in World War II meant to her.

Ipswich Star:

Simon said: “Peggy brings so much joy to our home here at Mill Lane. I wanted to do something special for her, and to celebrate her life, and seeing her smile made it all worth it."

The Women’s Land Army, originally created during World War I and recreated for the Second World War, brought women known as Land Girls into work in agriculture to replace men called up to the military.

The photograph shows Peggy in Land Girl uniform walking through Ipswich with her fellow Women’s Land Army colleagues.

Peggy’s face lit up at the discovery.

Debbie Austin, activities co-ordinator at Mill Lane, said: "Peggy receiving this picture from Simon was wonderful. It reminds her of happy times, and we love celebrating our resident’s lives."
