From a two-day spring fayre to family crafts, there are plenty of half-term events taking place across the county that won't break the bank. 

As the final half term of the academic year, schools in Suffolk break up on Friday, May 24 and go back for the final term on Monday, June 3. 

Here are five family-friendly events for under £5 if you are looking to take your kids out on a budget.

1. Tales of the Southwold Cannons

Where: 69 High Street, Southwold, IP18 6DS

When: Thursday, May 30 at 2pm

Cost: Free

Children's author and illustrator Peter Kent will be reading from his book Tales of the Southwold Cannons about one of the town's most famous features. 

Learn about the story of the cannons, why they are in Southwold, where they came from and if they have ever fired at an enemy.

2. Open gardens

When: Sunday, May 26 from 12pm until 4pm

Cost: Free for children (adults £5)

As part of the National Garden Scheme (NGS), Acre House will be opening for visitors for its first time as part of the scheme. 

The NGS gives unique access to private gardens and raises money for nursing and health charities through admissions, tea and cake.

3.Bury St Edmunds Spring Fayre

Where: Charter Square, arc Shopping Centre, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3DG

When: Sunday, May 26 and Monday, May 27 from 10am until 4pm

Cost: Free

The spring fayre will be getting ready for the sun at the Urban Beach with Punch and Judy as well as dinosaurs roaming the shopping centre. 

There will be more than 70 market stalls in Angel Hill and the Buttermarket as well as free entertainment and activities. 

4. Family Craft Group

When: Saturday, June 1 from 2pm until 4pm

Cost: Free

The library hosts a weekly social time for families of all ages to enjoy a range of craft activities with different themes.

5. Spring Holiday Trail

Follow the trail, solve the clues along the way to find a special word.

Trail sheets can be collected from the café and returned for a prize when completed.
