Work is progressing on the new supermarket for budget retailer Lidl at the Anglia Retail Park in Ipswich.

Building work on the new store began at the end of February at the retail park in the north of the Suffolk town.

Recent photographs now show the framework of the building has been erected as workers continue with the project.

Colin Kreidewolf, the chair of Ipswich Borough Assets, which owns the retail park, welcomed the progress at the site.

He said: "We're really pleased the work is going to schedule for the handover in August to Lidl for them to do the interior fit out.

"We are pleased that the whole project is moving on and it will be an exciting addition to Anglia Retail Park and I am sure will be an attractive proposition for residents in the north-west of Ipswich."

The shell of the building, which lies on the former B&Q garden centre site, is due to be handed over to Lidl at the beginning of August.

From then, it is expected to take about two months to fit out so it should be able to open its doors to its first customers in October.

Planning permission for the new supermarket was granted back in October 2022 by Ipswich Borough Council after the proposal was first unveiled in 2021.

Speaking previously, Mr Kreidewolf said a traffic study had been conducted as there were some concerns over congestion.

He said: "When we bought the retail park there was already a lot of parking there so that should not be an issue with this new store.

"We have already done quite a lot with the traffic layout in the Anglia Retail Park so we don't think this will cause any further problems."

When the supermarket opens, it will be third Lidl located in Ipswich.
