An Ipswich serviceman who became the first professional bodybuilder in a wheelchair has a new mission - go to the Paralympic and Invictus games.

Nick Hewitt suffered a spinal injury during his time serving in the British Army which led to him being medically discharged from the force.

However, the 41-year-old took up wheelchair bodybuilding, and was instrumental in bringing a competition to the nation and is so far the UK's only professional wheelchair body builder but has set his sights on racing.

He said: "I grew up on athletics, I loved it, I ran when I was in the army but when I was medically discharged that was something that was taken away

"I am getting older and I have reached the pinnacle of one sport, so let's see if I can do it in another sport."

Mr Hewitt said: "The goal is the Invictus games, that is the main one but I am also wanting try to get to the Paralympics in 2028."

The Invictus Games was felt held in London in 2014 and was started by Prince Harry for servicemen and veterans who were injured or who fell ill during their service.

The next games will take place in Canada next year.

To reach the games, Mr Hewitt has been training with the Orwell Panthers, Ipswich's disabled athletics club, but to keep his mission on track he is looking to buy a specialist racing chair.

He said: "It [the wheelchair] has to hold you tightly and if it doesn't you tend to just wobble and you can't go straight.

"Getting my own chair would be a huge step to reach my goal."
