Ed Sheeran has opened a new pub in Ipswich - but the venue is more than 3,000 miles away from Suffolk.

That's because the Framlingham-raised star's boozer - named the Old Phone - is in a town of the same name in Massachusetts, just north of Boston.

To make matters more confusing, the American town of Ipswich, home to more than 10,000 people, is in Essex County.

Sheeran, 34, has been posting about the Old Phone on his Instagram page ahead of its opening on Friday evening.

Its website describes the Old Phone as a "cozy, warm, and inviting Irish pub" that has been "inspired by a journey through time".

Sheeran appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the new pub, saying that it is only planned to be running for two days.

An Instagram story from the Shape of You hitmaker, who made his name busking on the streets of Ipswich (the Suffolk one), posted in the early hours of Saturday UK time showed the star performing to a crowd of people inside his new venue.
