Ipswich has been turned pink ahead of Ed Sheeran homecoming

Ipswich has been turned pink as excitement builds ahead of Ed Sheeran's homecoming shows.

Pink banners, signs and bunting has been spotted throughout the town a week ahead of three Sheeran gigs at Portman Road. 

Sheeran's new album, Play, features bright pink colouring which was also found on the third kit of Ipswich Town last season.

Locations in town have displayed 'Welcome Home Ed' posters as well as plaques in important places to the musicians career such as the Steamboat Tavern, the Thomas Wolsey and the Cornhill. 

In addition, 16 pink plaques have been dotted around the town to mark the occasion next weekend.

The campaign to turn the town pink has been co-ordinated by All About Ipswich, Ipswich Central and Ipswich Borough Council.

"We asked the town to turn pink as a ‘Welcome Home Ed’ party and so many businesses have answered this call, entering the pink shop window competition, displaying Welcome Home Ed posters, fringe events, special offers on pink drinks and lighting their buildings pink for the weekend.

"It’s a chance for the town to celebrate a talented musician and all-round nice guy who loves Ipswich, and we love him too.”
