A charity dragon boat race is returning with plans to be bigger and bolder than ever.

The annual Dragon Boat Festival, organised by Brave Futures, will take place on June 6, 2026, at Ipswich Waterfront and is now expanding into a full waterfront celebration.

Now in its seventh year, the event aims to raise vital funds for Brave Futures, a charity supporting children and young people.

Sandra Lucas, engagement and fundraising officer at Brave Futures, said: "The Dragon Boat Festival is more than just a race – it’s my favourite time of the year and a chance for the whole community to come together for such a brilliant day for an incredible cause.

"Every team, every cheer, and every pound raised helps us support children and young people who need us most, especially as demand for our services continues to grow.

"Seeing the Waterfront come alive in support of Brave Futures is truly special."

Last year, over 30 teams took part, raising £50,000.

Next year’s event will feature even more boats and activities, stretching across the entire waterfront with plans for live entertainment, Chinese lion dancers, and family-friendly attractions.

Ipswich Harbour Trust will open its 1948 motor tug to visitors, giving attendees a chance to step aboard a historic vessel.

The fundraiser is sponsored by Cory Brothers and will be hosted by BBC Radio Suffolk presenter Wayne Bavin, with Suffolk Sound supporting as media partner.

Funds raised go directly towards the charity’s work with children who have experienced sexual abuse.

The need for these services continues to grow, with some areas seeing a 36 per cent rise in demand.

Teams are invited to grab 10 teammates and take part in an "unforgettable day on the water".
