The departing vicar of an Ipswich church has shared an emotional farewell message with the town he has served for five years.
Reverend Tom Mumford, who has led Ipswich Minster, formerly St Mary le Tower, in Ipswich since 2021, spoke of his deep affection for the community as he prepares to step down from his role.
He said: “Serving as Vicar of First St Mary le Tower and, since the re-designation, Ipswich Minster, has been the privilege of my life.
"I have fallen in love with Ipswich and its people. I will miss this place so much!

"Though Sunday will be a hard day, leaving always is, I hope that it can be a celebration of all that has happened in the last five years, and that we can all look forward with hope in our hearts.
"I believe so deeply that Ipswich has the brightest future!
"It would be amazing to be able to say goodbye to everyone I’ve worked with, served with and cared for during my time here.
"If you can’t make it to church in the morning you’ll find me in the Greyhound in the afternoon - you’re all welcome!”

The Reverend announced he would be moving towards the end of last year due to moving to York with his wife Laura, who will also be taking on a new role as a vicar.
He has invited parishioners, friends and residents to attend his last service at the minster this Sunday, March 8, with an open invitation to continue farewells later at The Greyhound.
His departure brings to a close five years of ministry at the historic town centre church, with Mr Mumford stating that highlights and achievements include multiple live broadcasts on the BBC, record numbers of baptism and confirmations, especially children and teenagers and the congregation doubling to average 200 people on a Sunday.
