A driver has been banned from the roads after being caught running a red light in Ipswich town centre.
Police were on duty in Dogs Head Street at around 1am on March 9 when they noticed a Volkswagen Polo, now known to be driven by James Parker, 32.
The police saw Parker run a red light at the junction of Dogs Head Street with Upper Brook Street. They pursued Parker and pulled him over in Neale Street, Suffolk Magistrates' Court was told.
Initially, Parker, of Atherton Road, Ipswich, refused to give a breathe sample. However, he later complied and was found to be more than twice the limit, with 88 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of his breathe
When asked to explain himself, Parker said it had been a stressful time for him, having resigned from his job of many years and moved back to Ipswich to help care for a seriously unwell relative.
Parker was banned from driving for 22 months and fined £614. After court costs and a surcharge, he will pay £945 in total.
